About

I'm a full-stack developer with a passion for UI and UX design. My open-source work projects are up at https://github.com/vickychijwani, and I occasionally write blog posts at https://vickychijwani.me. I like to be deeply invested in end-to-end development of product features, all the way from talking to users, to architecture design, implementation, testing, documentation, monitoring, and gathering feedback. I also enjoy delivering talks / training sessions on software development and UX design for engineers. In terms of technical breadth, I have worked in each of these areas for at least 3 years: - Large-scale distributed systems in Java (Google Pay had over 75M MAUs in India as of May 2020) - Android/iOS development (Google Pay) - Front-end web dev (built a flexible, real-time JS charting library for financial use-cases) - Developer tools (worked with Kubernetes, CI infrastructure and C++ source-dependency management; built a JS library for other developers in the company)

  • Till March 2024: Tech lead responsible for major parts of core payment flows for GPay India, driving the design and development of innovative new features like UPI Circles, to grow UPI usage to senior citizens, teens and other non-UPI native segments of the population (e.g., house helps, NRIs). This idea was pioneered by GPay first, with major contributions from myself on aspects like how to minimize chances of fraud using this feature. We were successful in eventually getting this adopted by NPCI for all UPI apps.
  • Apr 2024 - Present: Tech lead on Google Cloud Platform's AI security service - Model Armor. I am responsible for the design and development of integrations of other GCP services with Model Armor.

Core Engineering - Software Developer

Mar 2015Nov 2018 · 3 yrs 8 mos

  • Jan 2017 - Nov 2018: Working in the developer tools team to build infrastructure and tools.
  • Moved our entire CI infrastructure to Docker containers using Kubernetes.
  • Set up monitoring, logging and alerts for the CI system (InfluxDB).
  • Mentored a team member as they added support for specific CI use-cases like complex parallel pipelines and matrix builds.
  • Worked on a source-to-source dependency management and release tool for c++ code, built on Git and written in Python.
  • Added a feature to the above tool to visualize complex dependency graphs and trace “diamond” dependency conflicts.
  • Led an initiative to eliminate issues arising from client-server incompatibility in the above tool, by enforcing backward compatibility via tests.
  • Organized and delivered 3 training sessions (Web Dev, UI Design, and Developer Tools) to a batch of 15 campus hires, each in collaboration with a teammate. These sessions spanned a total of 48 hours.
  • Mar 2015 - Dec 2016: Built a high-performance JavaScript data visualization library for traders.
  • Authored a JS charting library on top of Highcharts, optimized for financial data, with real-time streaming from various data sources, custom layouts (e.g., multiple time-synced panes), and arbitrary linear combinations of stock prices. It is extensively tested and documented.
  • Added several developer-oriented features to a desktop app to enable faster development.
