Talent Management & HR Projects

  • After working as an HRBP for almost 5 months I was asked to move into Talent Management & Projects team. This is a central HR team that works closely with the CoE TM, based out in Mumbai, and the employees of Jamnagar. Here I got the opportunity to work on the Annual Talent Review process, which is a potential calibration exercise wherein the potential of ~400 leaders of JMD was accessed and calibrated. Hi-Pos are identified during the process and necessary interventions are agreed upon by the calibration panel to further hone their skills.
  • I was also responsible for driving the final stage of PMS, which involved Performance Rating calibration and Increment calculation for the 5300 odd employees of Jamnagar Site. Following the guidelines from the P&R CoE it was my responsibility to ensure that the employees were calibrated based on their performance via a fair and transparent calibration process.
  • In this role I was also handling Career Acceleration Program (CAP) and Sapphire Coaching. Both these are TM interventions given to Hi-pos who are identified through a rigorous selection process.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities I also got to work on few other projects like
  • (a) revamping the employee exit process by making all the clearance processes online
  • (b) CSR project of effective utilization of the excess food prepared in the canteens of the refinery
  • (c) designing a customized MDP module, with a leading B-School, for our mid-level manager

  • The first 3 weeks at Jamnagar was utilized in understanding the Refinery - functioning of the various plants and how various departments supports the operation. A sound knowledge of Safety protocols was also developed during this time. My bachelor's degree in Engineering help me here since I was able to relate a lot of concepts to what I had learned earlier.
  • After 3 weeks I was assigned the role of HRBP for 3 plants in the SEZ refinery site within the Jamnagar Refinery complex. In this generalist role I was hands-on working with around 250 employee being actively involved in every stage of employee life cycle management. It gave me the opportunity to work closely with people from across levels and helped me in understanding how the HR policies impact the lives of front-line employees.
  • I got the opportunity to work with people overcoming the barriers of language, age and seniority within the organisation.
