I have been a startup operator since 2019, typically specializing in building & scaling early stage startups in a leadership role. I prefer entering companies between pre-seed to Series A and scaling them all the way. In my current avatar, I am building for an agentic future for the back offices of restaurant businesses globally. I have been a founder, leader, operator and executive in 5 startups to date, across AI, consumer internet, fintech, SaaS across B2B, B2B2C and B2C, serving both local and global markets. I started out in the sales & trading pit of an investment bank that used to be Lehmann Brothers before the GFC in '08 and got a first hand view of how money moves and how macro economics plays a pivotal role in driving the global economic engine. After a brief stint in Investment Banking & Trading @ Nomura, I decided to take on a more hands-on, operating role @ Jai Kisan, an Indian fintech start-up that built for rural income generating businesses that ended up raising >$50M from globally acclaimed investors and funds, impacting a few million lives along the way. Since then, I have been a builder across Koo (an alternative social media app that scaled across 100M users across 23 countries globally and in its heyday beat Twitter to the numero uno spot in markets like Brazil), Stable Money (one of India's hottest wealth tech platforms today) & Loop AI (one of the fastest growing restaurant technology softwares ever) while also starting my own business, STX back in 2022-23, before regulatory changes made my business unviable. In an alternative reality, I would have turned a professional cricketer had I chosen the other fork in the road that did not lead to college in IIT Madras but pursuing my budding career as a cricketer. I operate and lead my teams like how I would manage cricket teams as a captain. I have learned a lot about life and leadership from being a sportsperson and a captain of a team sport at a competitive level.   • A 6 month soul searching exercise that ended with me finally finding a home in Loop AI in my current avatar. Was looking to identify and build in white spaces as a founder across agetech, AI personal info-security, AI consumer tech in fashion & social.
  • Learnings:
  • Agetech in India could work in one of 3 settings - Real Estate/ Senior Living (not my cuppa tea), Healthcare (which was dominated by legacy incumbents), Specialization in specific illnesses and chronic care - Kubo Care comes closest to what we were zeroing in on.
  • AI info security personally seemed a strong idea but did move me personally. As a founder who would have had to spend the next 10 years building and obsessing over the problem, I realized the drive and passion for the problem was a non-negotiable for me and decided to pass on the idea once I realized that did not feel compelled enough to solve this problem when I woke up every morning.
  • AI consumer applications in fashion & social - explored ideas like AI creators & companions (and actually made some money in subscriptions) but did not find a strong enough wedge. AI fashion was compelling (using fit and sizing as a differentiator in fashion discovery and recommendations to build a commerce platform), but my buddies who were on this soul searching exercise with me basically told me that them and fashion was an oxymoron.   • My time at Koo is close to my heart for the ambition of the founders in taking up a complex, challenging problem statement in solving for a problem like global multi-lingual social. The highlights of my journey here include one fine day in Dec '22 when we woke up to realize we were the #1 social app of Brazil, launching in 23 countries globally with >100M users.
  • In this stint at Koo, I was the Head of the Monetization Business (all of Koo's Revenue)
  • Product: Built the ad engine, subscription & in-app purchases as products while ensuring similar or better user retention as before
  • Growth - Built the necessary GTM muscles for the company in building an ARR pool of advertisers that tracked a $3M yearly revenue run rate.
  • Partnerships - Product & GTM partnerships that built additional flywheels to drive more ARR.
  • As the ZIRP era came to a close, a lot of the social apps in India were faced with the conundrum of changing investment theses among global funds that could write Series D/E cheques leading to eventual crash & burn and Koo was no exception.

  • STX was built on a simple insight - GenZ looks up to creators like millennials looked up to sports & entertainment icons and stars.
  • Thus started an exercise to build an alternative asset class (think Polymarket/ Kalshi for Social creators), where GenZ could trade a creator's performance (views/ subscribers, etc) like a stock on Robinhood. By tokenizing a creator and allowing for synthetic exposure into their performance, we built a strong flywheel where thousands of GenZ users started monetizing their knowledge of social creators similar to users of Polymarket/ Kalshi/ FanDuel/ DraftKings, etc
  • Hired and built a team of 12 rockstars who all decided to moonlight with me
  • Had extremely strong market retention and usage patterns (saw hockey stick growth first hand)
  • Achieved initial PMF
  • Unfortunately, when we were 2 weeks away from a Term Sheet to close our Seed round, the Indian regulator changed the classification of this product and its taxation such that this business was no longer viable (for the uninitiated, read about Real Money Gaming regulations and changes since July 2023)
