David E. Gonzalez is a San Francisco based multidisciplinary designer and educator. David launched his professional design career at IDEO as a design intern. At the end of this engagement he mastered his design craft by joining the consummate California design firm, Astro Studios, where he collaborated with companies like Compaq, HP, Motorola, and NIKE. After his tenure with Astro Studios he consulted for various local and international design firms, technology companies, startups, and entrepreneurial ventures. He was recruited by an offshoot of Design Continuum, the boutique design firm Sozo Design LLC in 2002 as creative director, and accepted the position of partner and principal in late 2004. As a managing partner, David has been responsible for leading and managing efforts in consumer electronics, computer hardware, soft goods, medical and cosmetic devices, lifestyle products, toys, sports equipment, graphic and identity development, user experience, and packaging design for industry leaders like Fujitsu, Kensington, Samsung, NYSE Euronext, and Varian Medical Systems. In addition to being a design consultant David is an assistant professor and former assistant chair of Industrial Design at the California College of the Arts. He is also a Member of the Board for the Lewis Butler Foundation. The foundation's objective is advancing opportunities for young people in architecture and design. David holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from San Jose State University as well as an Associate of Art degree from The College of San Mateo. He is the holder of multiple patents and his work has been recognized with awards from the Industrial Designers Society of America, Business Week, ID Magazine, iLounge, and CES - the Consumer Electronics Show.
