Derek Miller — Director of Engineering
I'm a technology leader who builds systems, moves organizations, and finds where AI can create real leverage. As Director of Global Sales Operations Optimization at WTW, I'm focused on applying AI and automation to improve how a global sales organization operates — identifying inefficiencies, building smarter processes, and helping teams do more with less friction. It's work that sits squarely at the intersection of strategy, technology, and change management. Before WTW, I spent seven years at Deloitte leading enterprise IT programs for the federal government. At the IRS, I ran the M365/Microsoft Teams rollout, overseeing executive reporting, user adoption, and cutover at scale. I led a Cloud Management Office initiative that cut environment provisioning time by 50%. I managed the Win10 refresh of over 50,000 physical workstations. And I helped project manage the implementation of mainframe failover architecture for the IRS. These weren't small projects — they required building trust across large bureaucracies, managing competing priorities, and executing under real pressure. During COVID I left the effort to enable approximately 13,000 IRS employees to work from home in 37 days or so. Earlier in my career I worked in digital marketing — paid search, SEO, content strategy — managing accounts across B2B and B2C clients and later as a project manager for agency clients. That background gave me a commercial lens I've carried into every technical role since. I hold an MBA from Temple University's Fox School of Business and a BS in International Studies from RIT. I've studied and worked in Germany, Japan, and Taiwan, and speak Mandarin (HSK4 certified), conversational Japanese, and conversational German. Two years teaching English in Taiwan taught me more about communication and adaptability than any course I've taken. Current certifications include Cloud FinOps, NVIDIA AI Infrastructure & Operations, and Google GenAI Leader. I'm drawn to problems that are technically complex, organizationally messy, and actually matter. I spend free time experimenting and building applications and more using Claude and Gemini.
