  • As a teenager, I learned how to code software on Commodore and IBM PC 286 and earned my first money by writing tech articles on printed magazines, and selling tutorial and software disks by postal order. Before the web, I was a "sysop of a BBS": systems used before the consumer internet, like 1983 WarGames movie, but no military.
  • In 1995 (age 20), as a university student when the Internet became consumer accessible, I founded one of the first web companies with others. We demonstrated to local businesses the Whitehouse.gov site, one of the few existing at the time, asking if they wanted a web site, too. Everyone replied that FAX was enough, and no competitor had a website. They were right, we were too early.
  • We developed experiments ("Amici", "Fillungo Net"), early social/dating sites with groups of friends (by taking Kodak photos on streets, printing on paper, and scanning them, no digital cams!): years before MySpace, Facebook. However, like others, we failed to make that profitable: we didn't raise funds and we kept local instead of targeting the USA. A valuable lesson worth the cost of the failure; I orderly failed more times later; that's the reality of entrepreneurship and startups.
  • Luckily, when Java 1.0 beta was out in 1995, I was among the first to release animated web special effects Applets: Water Drop, Snow on images, Scroll texts, etc. with millions of downloads, used in many sites, with requests for custom versions.
  • Then I've spun-off Anfy from the local Anfiteatro, hiring international staff (including women engineers). It was too easy to get business at that time: we worked for Intel, NVIDIA, VC backed dot com (bubble) startups of Silicon Valley, until the bubble burst.
  • Ethical hacking: I was in the news for discovering security holes ( https://www.cnet.com/news/directdraw-bug-causes-crashes/ ).
