Mountains for moms

Founder

Aug 2009Jun 2010 · 10 mos · Ithaca, New York Area

  • In the fall of 2009, I founded Mountains for Moms (Formerly Fistula Free Climb), during my senior year at Cornell. Through the fall semester I recruited, managed and motivated a team of 11 peers before, during and after climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Overall, we raised $50,000 for OperationOF, a non-profit aiding women with obstetric fistula (www.operationof.org).
  • Leading up to the climb I arranged all trip logistics & collected all necessary funds from team members. During the three weeks we spent in Africa, I was responsible for the safety and well-being of the team, arranged hospital visits and developed my team members through the challenge of reaching Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
  • After the success of our climb, I coached the leader of the second group of Mt. Kilimanjaro climbers at Darthmouth University who raised an additional $8,000 for OperationOF. I also aided in the rebranding of the Fisutla Free Climb to Mountains for Moms in order to reflect a more holistic view at maternity related conditions.
  • Currently, I am mentoring next group of leaders to raise money for obstetric fistula and are aiming to create a structured organization to expand nationally in hopes of raising as much money and awareness for obstetric fistula as possible.
