Brain co.

Co-Head of Private Equity

Mar 2026Present · 2 mos · San Francisco, CA · On-site

  • Brain Co. builds and deploys AI for the world's largest private equity funds and their portfolio companies.
  • Sudden rapid advancement of AI has rattled valuations and made it harder for PE firms to underwrite deals with confidence. AI also has raised questions on long-term viability of portfolio companies which can be rendered obsolete. Brain Co. helps on both fronts:
  • 1) We leverage our bench of deeply experienced operators, product managers and engineers to help underwrite AI value creation as part of the diligence process
  • 2) We deploy horizontal, vertical and bespoke AI product suites in portcos rapidly to create defensibility and value in weeks
  • We are a team of AI engineers, AI researchers, domain experts, and institutional operators building the future of applied AI, from Google DeepMind, Palantir, Meta, Coinbase, NVIDIA, Stripe, and Airbnb.
  • We’re backed by many of Silicon Valley’s leading builders, including Patrick Collison (CEO of Stripe), Andrej Karpathy (Cofounder of OpenAI), Fidji Simo (CEO, Applications at OpenAI), Kevin Weil (CPO of OpenAI), and Aravind Srinivas (CEO of Perplexity).

Chownow

Marketplace VP, Executive GM & Head of Product

Jun 2021May 2023 · 1 yr 11 mos · Los Angeles, California, United States

  • Built a startup inside a startup with a fraction of the investment peers had, capturing market share in major markets and on a path to profitability in less than 2 years
  • A food marketplace which is Good for restaurants, Good for diners, Good for the community (Series D B2B and B2B2C Startup)
  • The idea was simple - build a marketplace which returns 100% of profit back to the mom & pop restaurants and the community - the challenge was how to compete with the billions DoorDash, Uber, GrubHub etc were spending to acquire demand and supply. We succeeded in doing this in LA, NYC, CHI, AUS and more - the community loved us. The product features we launched were celebrated. I miss it!
  • Reporting to the CEO and founder, I built from 0 to 1, a mission-driven multi-sided food marketplace for all the mom and pop restaurants we love (they keep 100% of their profit). It was built with almost no consumer marketing spend, driven primarily by word of mouth referrals by restaurants and diners who believe in our mission. I drove the P&L of all functions of our marketplace business such as marketing, operations, product, engineering, sales etc.
  • I have achieved multiple successes:
  • 1) Achieving 3x revenue growth in 2022 and 2x revenue growth planned for 2023
  • 2) Business forecasted to reach breakeven and then profitability ahead of benchmark
  • 2) Growth driven by a proprietary sales pipeline targeting model built on multiple internal & external datasources increasing LTV/CAC
  • 3) Launched marketplace in many major markets such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Austin etc.
  • and more...
  • ChowNow Marketplace is the home of food and fairness delivered:
  • Having proven a strong organic product-market fit, we are now underway in thoughtfully building product features and brand around the win-win proposition of being good for restaurants, good for diners and good for communities.

Postmates by uber

General Manager of Enterprise Restaurants & Commerce Verticals

Sep 2018Feb 2021 · 2 yrs 5 mos · San Francisco Bay Area

  • Built two businesses approx $2.9B in GMV. Postmates was acquired by Uber for $5B
  • 30% of the growth in valuation can be credited directly to J's building two primary businesses:
  • 1) Enterprise Vertical: Prior to my joining, Postmates was primarily a SMB operation, with growth in LA, Phoenix and Las Vegas. J personally built and scaled the largest enterprise partnerships for Postmates such scaled McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Wendy's etc. which represents $100s of millions in revenue. He added the frameworks, strategy, data analytics etc. to scale effectively. He also guided the product & eng team to develop effective product to grow the overall business
  • 2) New Verticals (Grocery, Retail, Convenience Stores & Healthcare): As the General Manager of the New Verticals, J incubated and launched this vertical from ground up. Working cross-functionally with bizops, product, engineering, finance, marketing, growth, legal, etc, J scaled the vertical to a multi-million dollar business in a few months, which scaled further under Uber
  • At the Uber-Postmates merger, we were applauded for the scale the businesses had reached with very limited resources in comparison
