Citadel

Vice President - Head of OTC Structured Products

Jan 2010Jan 2011 · 1 yr · Greater Chicago Area

  • Citadel’s operational unit was subsequently acquired in full (in-house and administered/3rd party) as a stand-alone fund administration business by Northern Trust and was subsequently renamed Northern Trust Hedge Fund Services. At the time, it was the #1 hedge fund in the world WRT to having the largest and most sophisticated structured OTC interest rates book, the largest cleared CDS and IRS books, and still stands out as the only non-bank global market-maker in both the OTC Interest Rate (swap/swaption/caps/floors) and OTC Equity (TRS/CFD) markets. They were also the first mover across all cleared interest rate and credit derivative clearinghouses, besides BlueMountain.
  • Brought in to lead, reconstruct, consolidate, optimize, and grow all OTC operations, supporting both in-house and outsourced operations, that I grew from 17 people to 35 in preparation pre-acquisition, across front, middle, and back office services while implementing OTC clearing operations and implementing regulatory reporting, reconciliations, monitoring, and general management across jurisdictions, including the CFTC, ESMA, HKMA, and beyond. Simultaneously developed and provided proprietary trade support services to Citadel, Bridgewater, and GIC while building a massively successful, standalone fund administration business for other hedge funds, asset managers, and pension funds, while also managing the wind down and restructuring of the LAMCO/Lehman Brothers complex/structured/special investments/derivatives portfolio.
  • Owned operating model and all system design.
  • Managed all trade booking, verification, reconciliation, documentation, and settlements. Oversight and expansion of group across Chicago, Hong Kong, Bangalore, and New York. Led industry relations and all strategic operational build-outs. Executed all 4 inaugural cleared swaps for both CDS and IRS trades across ICE, CME, and LCH.
  • Interest Rate, Equity, Credit, Energy, Commodity, FX, and other OTC & ETD derivatives.

Advisory Board Member

Jan 2006Jan 2012 · 6 yrs · Greater New York City Area

  • This was special for me. After being a member and intern of the organization in high school and working for them while getting my 1st master's degree, I was asked to join the Advisory Board. For 5+ years, I was an extremely active member during a time that saw our budget and savings both grow, grant & giving decreases in the aftermath of the financial crisis, our programs expand to more high schools and middle schools throughout NYC, and the expansion of our service model to Washington D.C.
  • I'm incredibly passionate about empowering & mentoring young adults to accomplish their dreams and to dream limitlessly. The earlier we free our minds from the boundaries we and those around us create, the better. To do so, you must be educated, exposed to the outside world, and provided with respectively personal enablement services. I resigned after moving to Chicago and not being able to travel to NY enough to feel as hands on as I personally needed to feel.
  • Key accomplishments:
  • Led a committee that focused on successfully moving the organization from it's original headquarters to a more centrally located location several times bigger and across the street from a public university within Manhattan (CUNY-Baruch).
  • Helped lead a year-long intensive 5-year strategic planning module sponsored by RobinHood and run by McKinsey.

Manager of Operations

  • BlueMountain was subsequently acquired and renamed AMG. At the time, it was the #1 hedge fund in the world WRT to having the largest and most sophisticated structured credit/CDS book, one of the most complex structured OTC equity derivatives books, as well as the first mover across all cleared interest rate and credit derivative clearinghouses, besides Citadel.
  • First manager of operations. Implemented, defined, and standardized all trade support processes throughout the entire life cycle of the trade from idea origination through regulatory & compliance support through reconciliations and all related system usage and design processes, UI's, and integrations. Manage all system & UI development, trade booking, verification, reconciliation, documentation, and settlements, as well as vendor, OMS, fund admin, custodian, brokerage, and prime brokerage relationships. Oversight of group across London, Tokyo, and New York. Support and define all processes related to security master, vendor implementation, fund setup, ISDA negotiation, and compliance. Led industry relations, and strategic operational build-out.
  • Grew a team of 8 people in-house doing the work a normal bank would employ about 200 people to do, as complimented by the strategic utilization of an additional 40 FTE (10% onshore / 90 % offshore) through our fund administrator, by standardizing, automating, and optimizing the execution of all reconciliations, payments, etc in support for some of the largest OTC books in history... typically covered by 100's people at major investment banks.
  • Model provided around the clock coverage 24/6 of all North American, European, and Asian trading utilizing New York and London offices as primary real-time support.
  • Pioneered and helped develop the ICELink credit derivatives matching and service model and the cleared IRS and CDS models employed by CME, ICE, and LCH.
