About

As a Lecturer and Software Developer, I have had the privilege of being involved in various projects and roles throughout my career. Currently, I am working on the project "Bridging Gap: Championing Academia-Industry Alliance through an innovative digital platform" at the University of Tourism and Business Studies (UTB). This project has received a grant from Chemonics International #UKAID through the Research Innovation System for Africa Programme (RISA). Before joining UTB, I worked as a Senior Researcher on the "Evidence-Based Road Safety: An Automatic Road Traffic Crashes Data Management System (AUTORTC-DMS)" project, sponsored by the Rwandan National Council for Science and Technology. This collaboration involved the University of Rwanda and Kigali Collaborative Research Center (KCRC)-Rwanda. In addition to my academic work, I have gained experience as a Coding Educator at BrightChamps and I also had the opportunity to serve as a mentor for Programming for Data Scientists at the African Centre of Excellence in Data Science (ACE-DS) in Rwanda, where I trained students in Python and R. During my time at the African Leadership University (ALU), I worked as a Faculty Member of Computer Science, contributing my expertise for one year. At UTB, I served as a Lecturer and Programmer for nine years, delivering a competency-based curriculum and implementing a blended learning model for a diverse student body. Throughout my tenure, I led a dynamic team in developing a competency-based computer applications curriculum and successfully completed several IoT and Android projects with students. I am proud to have been part of the winning team in the Design-a-thon Climate App Hackathon organized by the Rwanda Meteorology Agency and sponsored by UNDP in 2018. In this project, I contributed as an Android Developer. Volunteering is also an important aspect of my journey. Recently in November 2024, I was privileged to train the staff of the University of Rwanda on Python programming. .In 2019, I had the privilege to volunteer for a coding boot camp aimed at kids between the ages of 10 and 15 in Kigali, Rwanda. Before joining UTB, I mentored a diverse student body at the Administrative Management College in Bangalore, India, helping them accomplish their research projects. Beyond academia, I have 1.5 years of experience as a Software Developer at Ignus Information System Pvt Ltd in India. During this time, I developed valuable applications in various domains, specializing in building Android applications and integrating different APIs.

  • I had the privilege of facilitating the development of mobile platforms using Flutter. Throughout the process, we explored numerous case studies, and the students were able to create remarkable cross-platform mobile applications. They utilized UI/UX design software like Figma to design prototypes for their apps, which added an extra layer of professionalism to their work. It was truly inspiring to witness their creativity and expertise in action.

  • Kundan Kumar worked as Android Developer in three different Phase as per Meteo Rwanda Requirement to accomplish this project. This project was sponsored by UNDP-Rwanda and organised by Rwanda Meteorology Agency. The aim of this system is to help in fast communication between Rwanda Meteorology Agency, agronomists, famers’ facilitators and farmers in meaningful way. The researchers used qualitative methods by conducting an interview with the meteo, agronomist, and farmers. An observation was also used to get first-hand information on the flow of communication between meteo, agronomists, volunteers, farmer facilitators and farmers. Existing Communication was Analyzed and Proposed Effiective Kubero Communication Model, which allow faster communication between stakeholders. An Innovative approaches Agile methodology was used to develop a pilot project. A prototype was designed to deliver timely climate related information and predictions to address pressing needs of farmers in climate disaster prone areas. Where farmers will be periodically accessing of clear weather prediction via USSD, together with agronomists’ suggestion, so that they can plan a head and a prototype was distributed between Meteo Rwanda, agronomist, volunteers and farmers for their feedback. This App is a three one App, which has Android App, USSD farmer App and Meteo Web App. Agronomist will use Android App to access provincial weather forecast data to provide suggestion to famers. Agronomist can send emergency alert to famers’ facilitators. Farmers can retrieve weather forecast data along with agronomist’s suggestion in meaningful way using USSD App. Farmers can provide feedback on weather prediction in yes, no or maybe which can help meteorology Agency to improve their prediction. Volunteer will also use USSD App to feed temperatures and rainfall of the day. This Volunteers’ data will be accessed by Rwanda Meteorology Agency using Meteo Web App for their approval.
