I’ve spent over 20 years as an engineer and engineering leader across startups and large-scale organizations, including Google, Amazon, Gojek, and Myntra. The hardest transitions I’ve seen in that time were never about technical skill. They were about learning to operate at a different level of impact. I’ve worked on and led teams building planet-scale infrastructure, cloud databases, search systems, logistics and large distributed platforms. Along the way, I’ve watched many strong senior engineers struggle after stepping into management, not because they weren’t capable, but because expectations changed without being made explicit. As you move from IC to manager, and later into senior leadership roles, success becomes less about having the best answers and more about judgment, leverage, and enabling others to think and decide. I write about these invisible shifts: how impact changes, why growth stalls at senior levels, and what it actually takes to scale teams and decision-making without losing yourself in the process.
