About

"Leadership is not a title or position, but an attitude" Feel free to get in touch with me (sarlaksha@gmail.com) to discuss anything related to People & Culture!! A few words that definitely describe me: Energetic, friendly and warm, extroverted, super empathetic, straightforward and no BS, proactive helper and a life long learner! Thanks so much for stoppoing by my profile! Driven by a mad hunger to create impact, I love to continuously delight people and craft fulfilling experiences for them. Being a true intrapreneur at heart (yeah you read that right!), I work best with leaders who possess growth mindsets -- those who are unafraid to explore the paths less travelled and be trailblazers in their chosen field. A firm believer of the product thinking approach, I use a strongly data driven method to build and scale the People and Culture Function. My mission is to build workplaces that inspire people to put their best foot forward for the business every single day. Having a background in psychology has helped me to appreciate and accept people as they are without any judgements -- I strongly feel that there is always an impact of our life experiences on why we behave the way we do, and it is unfair to judge others without knowing their side of the story completely. I am always keen to connect with new people across the globe and learn from their experiences. Hoping to join hands and make this world a better place for all the people here, and leave a positive impact on all the lives that we touch!

  • My role is a Mother/Sister/Friend/Mentor/whatever you need me to be to help you thrive at Solinas, as we solve for water and sanitation challenges across the globe, one city at a time! The People & Culture function at Solinas is the super power behind the legacy we're building, because we give our people the right culture and environment to be able to scale thelselves & Solinas strongly.
  • I see myself as a tightrope walker whose has to fulfill & nurture the needs of the people and the business. As a mother responsible for both these children (people & business) with different and with unique needs, I realize that I need to look at proactively fulfilling their minutest needs in a customized way, so that the heart of Solinas Integrity is kept healthy. I am extremely mindful of balancing the present needs with building for a strong future with the right combination of strategy & execution.
  • Building the People & Culture function from ground up has got me involved in conceptualizing a clear vision that empowers people to bring their whole selves to work, contribute in a meaningful manner & create the impact required to power Solinas into a legacy in the making. A fabulous vision without proper execution is useless, so I ensure that this is done perfectly at every stage -- from the first touch point/call where a potential candidate sees the opening or hears our voice, to the candidate experience process where they are offered or declined a role with us, to kickstarting their onboarding journey with us & inspiring them dream big and powering those dreams -- every experience is crafted meticulously to build the best possible People & Culture product out there!
  • We invest genuine care, effort and mindfulness of the people's needs so that they are able to focus on doing what they love and in the process make real impact at Solinas, given we're solving real world problems that addresses a core need for every living being -- access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation.

PhD Research Scholar

Jul 2009Nov 2014 · 5 yrs 4 mos · Chennai Area, India

  • I did my Ph.D. in the area of holistic Employee Experience and Work-Family Balance. This is an area that drew my interest, since I wanted to gain a strong, deep understanding of what it take to create meaningful and impactful people experiences, which would improve performance, retention and overall satisfaction with work.
  • My research suggests that an interplay of personal and social support factors are crucial in enabling the employee to realize a great Work-Family Balance and Quality of Work-Life. The study used data from customer-facing employees in the banking and hotel industries (where attrition rates are extremely high). Based on a number of one-on-one conversations with employees and employers alike, I understood the kind of effort and commitment required from both sides to ensure a great work experience for people.
  • My Ph.D. is a proof of my keen interest in both research work and statistical analysis. I thoroughly enjoy crunching numbers to discover meaningful patterns and understand why such patterns even emerge in the first place.
