Opening the Word. Helping People Follow Jesus. I serve as the Lead Pastor of Rocky Creek Church in Greenville, South Carolina. My calling is simple: preach the Word of God and help people follow Jesus. One of the phrases people often hear from me each week is: “Turn with me to one of my favorite passages of Scripture.” The truth is, they’re all my favorites. Because when people begin to understand the Word of God, everything changes. Lives change. Families change. Churches change. What I Do At Rocky Creek, I help lead a congregation committed to one mission: making disciples who take personal responsibility for Kingdom activity. My role includes preaching, leading staff, and equipping believers to follow Jesus in everyday life. I believe the church is strongest when ordinary believers take seriously the call to follow Jesus and help others do the same. Organizations I’ve also helped start initiatives focused on strengthening discipleship and mission: Entrust Institute – providing seminary-level theological training within the life of the local church. Recommission Network – helping churches rediscover and recommit to the Great Commission. Writing & Teaching In addition to pastoring, I write, speak, and create resources focused on discipleship and spiritual growth. I’ve authored several books, including Distinctive Discipleship, Wiki God, Don’t Drop Your Kids Off at Church, and Freshman 15. I’ve also helped develop curriculum with LifeWay and the Kendrick Brothers. I serve as an Adjunct Professor of Discipleship at North Greenville University, investing in the next generation of ministry leaders. Life I’m grateful to share life with my wife, Amanda, my high school sweetheart, and our three children.
