About

Present: Building Ivory (www.liveivory.com). We help detect cognitive decline early through neuroscience-based assessments and games. Past: Tinker, Builder, Leader for direct-to-consumer OTT streaming app for an amazing brand called discovery+ with Discovery. Another past life: Marketer/Storyteller-in-Chief for PUMA and HealthifyMe. I can say I had a bit to do with their journeys to becoming the #1 sportswear brand and fitness app respectively. Another past life: Took a sabbatical. Lived in bunker Airbnb beds at the age of 34 and graduated from the Screenwriting Program at the New York Film Academy in NYC. That led to a short story collection with Penguin India. That was 2018. Five years later, wrote another book with HarperCollins. Specialties: Walking the talk. Fulfilling commitments. Persuasion. Putting skin in the game and playing to win.

  • Just getting started. We exist so that India has better access to better brain health.

Head of Marketing, Direct-to-Consumer and Discovery Networks APAC

May 2021Apr 2022 · 11 mos

  • Bittersweet time. Had begun managing APAC (team) and PST timezones (global bosses). Was loving the importance of being at the center of global leadership but felt like it was high time to start up.

Business Head, Direct-to-Consumer (discovery+ India/APAC)

Dec 2017Apr 2021 · 3 yrs 4 mos

  • 2022 Q2: After multiple promotions et al previous year, felt first pangs that I needed to punch up. Role gradually moved from doing things to managing things.
  • 2020-‘22: Good times. Great energy. Became DTC APAC Head and all. 100+ team. Paid subs on our OTT stood at a few millions by the time I left. Feels good to reflect and say we started from zero.
  • 2019-‘20: Was given onus of Discovery's DTC footprint in India. P&L role. Cracked it. Covid helped.
  • 2018: Ironically, failed at launching a channel called Victory (Discovery JEET). Division shut down - was brutal. Retained the best few in my team.

  • Met the founder, Tushar on a flight. 6 months later, found myself in a Marketing leadership role.
  • Wrote copy, shot videos, changed the brand narrative, uplifted conversions on Peformance, sold nutrition plans on call and smart bands on Amazon. Did a ton basically and learnt that startups are hard.

  • Left my dream job at PUMA to study Screenwriting Program at the New York Film Academy in New York. Lived like a student in Airbnbs around Brooklyn. It takes a tough tummy, I can tell you, to do this.
  • Wrote a bunch- 3 screenplays and 2 manuscripts and pivoted to being a columnist earning peanuts.
  • Successfully pitched my short story collection 'Buffering Love' - a collection of stories on how apps are changing urban relationships - to Penguin Random House India. Still earned peanuts.
  • 'Buffering Love' eventually made 'Editors Pick' on Amazon a year later, among many other kind reviews. More here: https://amzn.to/2FXj3sa

Marketing Head

Nov 2011Sep 2015 · 3 yrs 10 mos · Greater Bengaluru Area

  • Can't tell you how badly I wanted this job. Cracked it at the age of 28. Happy AF when I got it. This is where I understood what Billie Jean King meant when she said, ‘Pressure is a privilege’.
  • Changed the course of PUMA being a rebel brand to being the #1 sportswear brand in sales by the time I left. It was all me (kidding)!
  • Hung out with Usain Bolt over drinks, Arsenal players in the Hospitality box at Emirates, Sachin Tendulkar in a lift in Cochin, Sangakkara over tea, Dravid over breakfast etc. etc.
  • Crazy culture. And I built a crazier work-ethic for myself and my team. You haven't worked hard and played hard until you've worked at PUMA. This job changed my life.
