Dima Saber — CEO
As Executive Director of Meedan, I lead a Skoll Award-winning organization building open-source technology for information integrity. We envision a world where communities have sovereignty over their own knowledge systems, and where the fundamental right to seek, receive, and impart information is fully realized for everyone, regardless of their language, location, or income. Meedan serves 75+ partners across 30+ countries in what we call the Larger World, working at the intersection of independent media, civil society, and ethical AI. Our latest platform, Suwali, helps newsrooms and human rights organizations inform communities, crowdsource insights, and scale impact, without the extractive practices of commercial AI. Before stepping into this role in November 2025, I served as Meedan's CPO for over a decade, leading community impact programs across North Africa and Western Asia, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. I also spent years as Reader in Media and Cultural Studies at Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research, where my research focused on media depictions of conflict and the role of archival records in identity-building processes, particularly in Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Yemen, and Palestine. I hold a PhD in Media Studies from Panthéon-Assas University Paris 2 and serve as the co-chair of my local Amnesty International group in Birmingham, UK. Let's connect if you're interested in: ethical AI, information integrity, community-centered technology, impact investment in mission-driven tech, or supporting independent media in underserved communities.
