I worked on building indexes using SQL and Python. It is basically portfolio creation and weighting using Python by applying various filters on the initial universe of stocks like liquidity or marketcap and then selecting the top stocks and weighting them by float market cap or unique weighting. These are the kind of portfolios that we know as Sensex 30. We use SQL for getting the data and then build and backtest our portfolios using Python.
