• Scaling up the implementation of National Response to Control Hypertension at the primary healthcare level in South Asia.
• Hypertension (high blood pressure) affects over 30% of the adult population worldwide, impacting over one billion people.
• Three out of every four individuals with hypertension live in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
• Despite this high prevalence, only about 10% of those in LMICs have their blood pressure treated and controlled.
• The implementation of WHO's HEARTS program demonstrates that effective hypertension control is both feasible and affordable in LMICs. This success is scalable and sustainable with strong government leadership.
• Beginning this year, I was fortunate to be chosen to work with The World Bank Group on their 'Scaling up National Response to Hypertension in South Asia' project.
• This collaboration with The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) focused on Bangladesh, with secondary research into global case studies and best practices.
• With a team of three, we proudly handed over our findings to the Bank.
