Aug 2025Present · 9 mos · London Area, United Kingdom

  • I’m currently on a career break (sabbatical) working on some personal projects, but still open to conversations with recruiters. LinkedIn has quietly removed the ability to share PDF files, so you can find my documents here:
  • ● CV-Resume ▶ https://bit.ly/4nIJQsL
  • ● Portfolio ▶ https://bit.ly/4ouOvQe
  • The personal projects include writing three new books:
  • 1. The SingleStore Cookbook: Recipes for Multi-Model, Machine Learning and AI Data Engineering
  • 2. Seven Vector Databases in Seven Days
  • 3. Generative AI: A Manager's Guide
  • The first book dives into practical, hands-on examples of:
  • ● Machine Learning
  • ● AI
  • ● Generative AI
  • ● AI Agents
  • The book is already 98% complete, with draft chapters progressing well. It will be accompanied by practical resources, including Jupyter notebooks and video tutorials, to help readers apply the concepts directly.
  • The second book is in very early development and the seven products covered may change.
  • The third book is in very early development.

  • Railtrack has over 500 different applications that it uses in its business. To provide a history of Y2K compliance testing and a mechanism for future enhancements to applications to be logged, a Configuration Management (CM) system was developed. I worked with a team of consultants to capture this business-critical software and place it into the CM system. The capture process required close co-operation with different business units within Railtrack. The CM software used was called Continuus.
  • The VISION system provides the worldwide CSFB bond trading desks with a GUI-based bond and securities lending system that handles all firm financing and matched book activity for the non-US domestic market. VISION was developed with the InterViews toolkit and a proprietary stack-based language implemented in C++ and Sybase to fulfil its functionality. A previous consultant on this project had developed a set of Perl scripts, and Sybase stored procedures to provide the bond reference data conversion necessary for EMU. Working closely with another consultant, I was responsible for testing these scripts to ensure that they performed the data conversion correctly. I also coded some enhancements and improved the documentation provided with the scripts.
  • The EPOC system was designed to meet a wide range of point-of-sale functionality for Legal & General insurance products, such as life, pension and general insurance. The system used Object-Oriented Analysis and Design methods and a three-tier architecture consisting of Java, CORBA and Relational Database technologies. My role was to investigate the issues related to mapping objects to the back-end Relational Database server. I reviewed published papers on Object-to-Relational mapping, synthesised the information and wrote an article proposing several solutions that could be used in the mapping process for EPOC.

  • I worked on several real-time and database projects related to the Reuters Monitor System.
  • The first project was an intelligent multiplexer written in RTL/2 running under RSX-11. I was responsible for making enhancements to this system. This often meant using my initiative to arrange meetings with previous developers, booking time on testbeds, etc. I also developed test scripts for the enhancements, and all changes and tests were fully documented for future developers.
  • The second project was developed using Ingres, SQL and Pascal under VAX/VMS. I was again asked to clean up the code, ensure that the software met original design specifications and standardise the Graphical User Interface across all application screens. I also developed scripts that enabled a particular version of the system to be correctly built from files managed by a code management system.
  • The third project was designed to replace one of the Monitor systems and was developed using Pascal under VAX/VMS. I made some enhancements to the replacement system to continue to operate with the intelligent multiplexers that I had worked with on my first project. I developed test scripts and was again responsible for all testing and documentation.
