About

“Busy giving ideas and intentions the best chance of success I possibly can.” I design practical tech, data and automation systems that help good teams make better decisions - faster. I enable lean teams to leverage AI in ethical and efficient ways that give them time back. I help businesses and founders unlock their next level. I create spaces for people to connect with one another more authentically. Hi, I’m Lavinia 👋, a tech, venture and social enterprise builder, with a background in psychology, software engineering, and social impact. I currently run Good Humans Digital, where we help NFPs, small businesses, founders and soloprenuers with systems, automations and AI - if this is a need for you right now, let’s grab a coffee - or come along to my next pay-what-you-can workshop. In the past few years of work, I have: 🤝 Functioned as a trusted listener, strategist, and operator for 4 not-for-profit and social enterprise CEOs on impact measurement, team dynamics, technology, funding, and innovation - if you need a systems thinker, I’m your person. 👩‍💻 Supported 3 early and idea-stage startup founders and business owners bring their visions to life, advising, building, and sharing everything I know to get them to revenue and beyond. 📊 Enabled a fast-growing commercial organisation make better decisions through data dashboards, automations and jargon-free insights - they have since gotten acquired by a large household name. 💪 ——— 📌 Tackling your messiest problems, progressing your biggest opportunities, and creating the best work cultures. ☕️ Message me for a chai - or a cocktail - if you're in Melbourne (there's always Google Meet too!). Always keen to meet new people and explore shared opportunities together.

Rokt

Software Engineer | Interim Product Manager

May 2019Oct 2020 · 1 yr 5 mos · Sydney, Australia

  • Large adtech organisation with offices in New York, Singapore and Sydney, curating a marketplace of retail check-out flow offers with personalised recommendations. Worked across two teams, building data integrations and pipelines to support the processing of millions of records of client data using cloud services, as well as developing end-to-end monitoring using a variety of technologies, while considering the legal and ethical implications of our work. Acted in both a team lead and product manager capacity to my team when those spots were suddenly vacated. Facilitated a Women in Engineering support network that aimed to create better opportunities for sharing and collaboration, started a mentoring program, and continually drove change by identifying company-wide areas for improvement and presenting ideas and solutions to relevant parties (Head of People, CEO, CTO, Engineering department). Shortly after I left, the organisation started turning over more than $1 billion of revenue a year.

Instaclustr

Software Engineer | Project Delivery Lead

Jan 2016Apr 2019 · 3 yrs 3 mos · Canberra, Australia

  • Early employee of the fast growing Canberra tech startup, watching it grow from 20 employees to 100. The offering was a big data managed services platform with over 1000+ customer servers/nodes.
  • Led the delivery of multiple projects and worked as a software engineer across a variety of technologies, primarily building charting, dashboard, automation, monitoring, alerting, security, governance and tooling systems. There was no product management function or differentiated engineering roles/teams, so all engineers were generalists across the entire stack with end-to-end responsibility for initial design, technical scoping documentation, peer review, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, alerting and incident response playbooks.
  • With multi-billion dollar customers even then, this organisation was acquired by a large US entity in 2022.

Smartward

Software Engineering Internship

Jul 2014Jul 2014 · 0 mo · Canberra, Australia

  • Short 3-week internship with a start-up producing software for the medical industry. Learned and worked with AngularJS on the front-end. Practiced the Agile methodology, going through testing and review processes for code changes I made. Also got a chance to be involved in some UX Testing.
  • Though quite overwhelming due to its short duration and steep learning curve for me at the time, what I remember most about this internship was the great mentor I had, who was encouraging and patient with me the whole way; and also the touching story behind the founder's motivation for starting SmartWard - both things that have left a lasting impression on me.

Youth arabia

Strategy, Operations & Partnerships

Jul 2011Feb 2013 · 1 yr 7 mos

  • Started out as a Virtual Assistant to the founder, working remotely and across timezones, but quickly became an integral part of this startup, wearing many hats along the way, including Editor-in-Chief of this tech-focused digital youth magazine.
  • Managed partner relationships with the Middle Eastern PR firms representing brands like Samsung, PlayStation, Razer, BlackBerry and the like, as well as various film distributors and event organisers in the region.
  • During the course of my time with Youth Arabia, we formed new relationships with more product vendors we were interested in reviewing/marketing, and strengthened existing relationships, formalising partner agreements where services and products were to be provided in exchange for media coverage on our website or social media platforms, usually in the form of blogs, advertisements, videos, or creative marketing campaigns by our amazing group of student graphic designers.
  • I was working closely with one of the founders on a daily basis and soon became a valuable business consultant, as well as a close confidante, to both the founders through the ups and the downs of managing this startup through its defining period.
  • Though Youth Arabia was dominating its niche market at its peak in 2012, it didn't make it past 2013 due to an unexpected tragedy.
  • Looking back on it, I am honoured to have had the chance to be a part of it - it certainly challenged me on both a professional and personal level, allowing me to learn a lot about myself through it.
  • Some of what I did included:
  • Developing business strategy
  • Handling partner relations, proposals and negotiations
  • Project management, acting as an intermediate between clients, company founders, and a team of 20
