Ben Clarfelt — Director of Engineering
I’ve spent the last 16 years working in the digital industry, partnering with organisations to hire and retain the people behind great products. My hands on focus sits across product management, product design, UX and user research, where I work directly with clients and candidates on complex and high impact hires. At Zebra People, I lead a specialist team and take a consultative approach to recruitment. I remain actively involved in product and design searches, while also focusing on developing the team and supporting them to win and deliver new work. We work across contingent, retained and embedded models, conduct hiring and team audits, and help shape recruitment strategies that align with product maturity, culture and growth plans. In 2019, I was instrumental in supporting Zebra People’s sale to the HW Group. The decision was driven by long term sustainability, shared values and the opportunity to scale the business while protecting its culture, people and client relationships. Since then, I’ve continued to play an active role in shaping the business within the Group. Alongside hiring, I support clients with EVP and employer brand development, helping them position themselves to attract the right talent, not simply compete on salary. I’m also experienced in identifying and engaging passive talent for hard to fill and business critical product and design roles. Zebra People is a certified B Corp, and social impact is an important part of how we operate. We are proud partners of Zarach, supporting their work to tackle bed poverty for children across the UK. I’m actively involved in the digital community and sponsor the User Research Thing, the largest user research event in the UK. Much of my work now focuses on sharing market insight, supporting both candidates and clients in their development, and contributing to better long term hiring decisions across the industry.
