Associate Intern - Operations Research

  • During my 6-month internship in 2018, worked with team on optimizing the Calibration (forecasting) process by automating scripts which led to a 40% decrease in time taken (from 7 weeks to 4 weeks). Worked with team on converting the entire source code from SAS to R to reduce operating costs along with the Operations Research team. The reduction in time was primarily due to change of codebase from SAS to R (with advanced logistic regression techniques), automation (leading to better interaction with the tool) and restricted Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) boundaries.
  • Calibrated (forecasted) networks for South African Airways, Ethiopian, Air India and 2 other airlines. Calibration is an activity that takes airline data, Sabre global demand data (GDD), market sizes etc. and helps airlines to check future schedules for profitability and re-work them based on results.
