I got into consulting because everyday in consulting looks different. New problem. New industry. New set of people. Clients who have been living inside their organisation for years - and somehow you are expected to come in, make sense of it, and help them move forward. Fast. Nine years in, that still does not get old. I work on strategy and transformation engagements - operating models, process redesign, GBS design, finance transformation, digital mandates - across geographies that have taught me as much about people as they have about business. How decisions get made in Riyadh is not how they get made in London. How authority is treated in Mumbai is not how it is treated in Amsterdam. That gap - between the answer on the slide and the reality in the room - is where consulting either earns its fee or completely falls apart. Most people think consulting is about Excels and PowerPoints. Frameworks and methodologies. It is not. It is a judgment industry. A people industry. The consultants who last are the ones who figure that out early. They know when to zoom out and when to double click. They can read a room as well as they can read a model. That is what I love about consulting. And it is what I write about - the work, the career, the decisions that do not make it into the deck.
