• Selection of Appropriate Routing Protocol and Development of Ad-hoc Network for Military Applications:
• Mobile ad-hoc network is a network of wireless mobile nodes without any centralized administration. In mobile ad-
• hoc network, the topology of the network changes periodically. Since there is a periodic change in the topology,
• routing updates must be done frequently which may increase the overhead in the network. Hence, there is a need to
• develop an ad-hoc routing protocol, which reduces the control overhead involved in ad-hoc routing.
• The aim of this project is to design and develop an efficient and secure routing protocol for MANETs,
• called Extended Routing Information Protocol (ERIP). The design of ERIP was carried out keeping in mind the
• sponsoring agencies requirements as well as the general characteristics of a MANET routing protocol. The design
• was formally verified for correctness. ERIP was simulated and tested using the QualNet Network simulator. ERIP
• provides security by encrypting the routing information before forwarding it to the other nodes. Simulation results
• show that the routing protocol was considerably more efficient in terms of routing overhead and packet delivery.
• Following this, ERIP was also implemented on the Linux platform and live testing was conducted
