Jerome Mazandarani — CEO
I am a seasoned entertainment marketing and distribution leader with over 20 years of experience in content acquisition, licensing, and sales. I’ve been on a fantastic voyage from aspiring teenage Aussie rockstar and art school grad, to record store clerk; from UK videogames marketer to MD of Manga Entertainment and a career as a globally recognized expert in animation and anime production, development and marketing. My love of people and pop culture, as well as what makes us entertained as a society is what's driven me to get here. When I first saw AKIRA in my local arthouse cinema in 1991 I would never have expected that thirty years later I’d be responsible for releasing it on every IMAX screen in the UK, during a global Pandemic, while breaking local box office records. What I love about anime is its ability to connect with people everywhere, irrespective of age, gender or language. It is distinctly “of the other”, it doesn’t hide its Japaneseness(!) and that’s why we all love it so much. An amazing story and relatable characters transcend all cultural barriers. Pop-culture brings people together, and it often brings the best out in them. I am proud to have helped build this community. My work reflects my values. Equality and fairness are extremely important to me. I am privileged to have my career and I use that privilege to mentor students and graduates, and more importantly, to ensure that all fans have the opportunity to see themselves reflected back at them. As EP of the Netflix series, CANNON BUSTERS, I was able to help LeSean Thomas to empower a diverse creative team to create a unique depiction of African-American and LatinX characters in a fantasy anime series. I am equally proud to have been the international sales and marketing director for the award-winning anime movie In This Corner of the World, which commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacks. What sets me apart from other C-level executives is that I want to get the job done with the minimum of fuss and hyperbole. I apply my creative and collaborative mindset to problem solve. I love empowering my teams by trusting them to work independently, by being approachable at all times and most importantly, by being kind. I know how to create value from creativity without sacrificing integrity, sensitivity and authenticity. I am a facilitator, advisor and consultant in pop-culture, creative, commercial & audience development, marketing & distribution. Currently advising 8 Lions and BLOXOLOGY, and clients incl. Piece of Magic, AHAVERSE, UNIQLO and more.
