Roca india (rbppl)

Design Consultant - New Product Development

May 2018 – Oct 2018 · 5 mos · Tamil Nadu · Hybrid

  • During my design project at IIITDM Kancheepuram, I had an incredible opportunity to work with Roca, contributing to the entire product development process, from discovery to development. I traveled extensively throughout Tamil Nadu, studying customer experience, sales processes, and market sentiment surrounding a fast-moving toilet seat purchased by over 200K customers annually.
  • My immersion in sales hubs and interaction with distributors and retailers allowed me to identify the core challenges facing the product's status quo and develop a plan for the new variant. By presenting my recommendations to Roca, I helped shape the development of their next product iteration.
  • Through this project, I connected with people from various backgrounds, including warehouse workers, engineers, manufacturing specialists, retailers, wholesalers, and product development professionals. This experience taught me the importance of connecting with the human spirit and understanding real human needs, irrespective of their role in the value chain. And yes, it's true - I've become truly passionate about toilets!
  • Travel also gave me a holistic perspective on product development. Immersion in Indian towns and rural settlements gave me a unique perspective of design for the Indian masses and glimpses of an India of the future.

Launchx: high school entrepreneurship programs

Mentor

Oct 2017 – Aug 2019 · 1 yr 10 mos · Remote

  • Mentored 5 high school teams from India, Pakistan, UAE and China on their entrepreneurship ideas. The intent of the course was to teach chidren how to approach the process of going from problem definition to an MVP through hands-on exercises.
  • As someone who is very passionate about education, this experience was eye opening for me to understand how children across the Asian sub-continent thought about products and businesses.
  • What I took away:
  • ❇️ Helped me identify areas I could support juniors and peers through mentorship engagements.
  • ❇️ I deeply appreciated the joy of teaching and learning. I parallelly decided to double down on this dimension by becoming a teaching assistant for the product design curriculum at IIITDM Kancheepuram.

Commercialisation of the Compliant Mechanisms Kit

May 2016 – Jul 2016 · 2 mos · Bangalore

  • Working at IISc as a researcher was a childhood dream! In this role, I worked for the M2D2 laboratory under the guidance of Prof. G.K.Ananthasuresh. My work focused on the domain of compliant mechanisms and specifically on improving a 2D visualization kit for compliant mechanisms that my college senior and mentor, Ananth, had worked on the previous year.
  • My work spanned the testing and analysis of the beam segment in the Compliant Mechanisms Kit. I worked with commercial Finite element Analysis software and used the Dynamic motion analyzer for testing the beam samples.
  • It was my first stint where I worked at the intersection of rigorous experimentation and complex theoretical models. At the end of the internship, I developed an analytical model for bending of beams with variable cross-sections for small deflections.
  • Overall, this stint helped me build a deeper appreciation of "doing" Science and Engineering and helped me cultivate a mindset of learning by doing.
  • Learning Outcomes:
  • ❇️ Stress Modelling 101
  • ❇️ Research Methods and Tools
  • ❇️ Enquiry and the Socratic Method
  • ❇️ Exposure to the life of a graduate researcher/Ph.D. student
  • Tools Used:
  • ❇️ Ansys FEA
  • ❇️ Autodesk Inventor
