I started my first company at 23 from a spare room in my parents' house in London. No funding, no network, no clue... just a phone, a laptop, and the kind of naivety that makes you dangerous. That company was Digital Gurus. Over the next decade, we grew it into one of the UK's leading digital recruitment agencies... 150+ staff, offices in London, Sydney, Dubai and Manchester, working with companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon. We won agency of the year, best company to work for, and eventually sold to the Rethink Group (backed by Private Equity). I moved to Dubai in 2017 and fell in love with the MENA startup ecosystem. I went deep... angel investing in companies like eyewa at seed stage, then joining as Chief People Officer to help scale the business from 120 to 700+ people. We hired over 1,000 people in two years, opened nearly 100 stores across the GCC, raised through Series C, hit profitability, and were awarded Great Place to Work in four countries. That journey taught me something most consultants will never understand: the difference between talking about people strategy and actually living through the chaos of building one while a company is growing 10x around you. Today I run Alnaas Advisory (Alnaas means "People" in Arabic). We work with MENA founders from Seed to IPO who know that their next 50 hires will either make or break them. We do People Advisory, Embedded Talent, Executive Search and Employer Branding... not from a textbook, but from the trenches.
